The Art Gallery Nikola Petrov, above the Danube banks and 150m from the city centre, has been open since 1961. The Gallery building, designed by architect Todor Varhota and surrounded by sculptures, was constructed in 1892 and used as a casino for officers. Today it houses 1,300 art works of Bulgarian and foreign artists. The section “Art of Painting” consists of 936 artworks, originals of Ivan Markvichka, Nikola Petrov, Vladimir Dimitrov–Maistora (13 works), Boris Nenov, Sirak Skitnik, and others. There are also 40 graphics, masterpieces by Rembrandt, Duerer, Mile, Gavarni, and so on. There is also a sculpture section (indoor and outdoor).
