Vidin is a town situated on the right bank of the Danube, in the north-western part of Bulgaria, 5 km away from the nearest Romanian town, and 20 km from the Serbian border. Thanks to such a position, it is a favourite stop for all the Danube cruises.

The town was founded in the 3rd century BC by a Thracian tribe. Later on, it became a part of the Roman Empire, then a capital of a Bulgarian Kingdom, until the 14th century, when it was conquered by the Ottoman. The ancient Roman, medieval, Turkish and modern Vidin have influenced the architecture and the appearance of Vidin, creating a subtle and appealing mix.

The Baba Vida Fortress is the best preserved medieval fortress in Bulgaria, constructed during different historical periods. Within its walls, there are theatre stage and a museum exhibition. Apart from the fortress, a visitor can visit The Ottoman fortification and administrative centre, a mosque and a library built in the XIX century, Jewish Synagogue, a medieval cave monastery, and a number of museums, galleries and historical monuments.

All the streets and buildings of Vidin are oriented towards the Danube and the Riverside Park that spreads out along the river's banks. With its recreational areas, beaches and landscapes (which combine English parks and Baroque Austrian gardens), the Park offers a lot of spots for relaxation and recreation.

Apart from the Park and its hiking and cycling paths, cycling is also possible on a route Vidin-Belogradchick, which is one of the most popular in Bulgaria.

The Port of Vidin is a place which offer a lot of boating, sailing and cruising possibilities.

A lot of restaurants and small cafés - offering traditional food and excellent wines, are final touches to a picturesque and historically significant town on the Danube.
