SLOVAKIA

Spa tourism has long been a mainstay of the Slovak tourism industry. A combination of geothermal sources and fine-quality mineral water means that the country has several spa towns. The most prestigious, Piešťany, is about an hour north of Bratislava. More recently, aquaparks with slides, hotpools and wave machines have grown up not far from the capital. The closest aquaparks to capital are in Senec, Veľký Meder and Galanta.

Senec is the most important and popular summer resort in the Bratislava Region – Senec and Sunny Lakes (Slnečné jazerá) spreading over 100 hectares with aquapark, a variety of events, pleasant atmosphere – these are attractions for summer holidays, sport events and relaxation. Aquathermal Senec is open all year round and has 9 indoor and outdoor pools, water attractions and a relaxing „water world“. Accomodation is available in hotels, bungalows and a camping site for caravans and tents.

The thermal baths are the greatest attraction in the region of the Danube lowlands. Three thermal springs arise in Patince and the beneficial effects of the water with a high mineral content are enjoyed by visitors to the thermal bath, equipped with five pools and a wellness hotel. The nearby yachting marina on the Danube has sightseeing cruises on offer.

Also, one of the most important wellness destination is Štúrovo. The first thermal bath in Štúrovo opened as early as in 1952. The most attractive features of the bath are a giant lagoon stretching over an area of 3800 square meters, the toboggan world with five toboggan slides and a swimming pool with artificial waves.
