Fons Romanus site indicates that Vrnjačka banja has served as the Roman healing ground. The modern spa, however, was established in the summer of 1869, when the first spa season was officially opened. As much as seven mineral springs are in use nowadays.
The pride of the town is the edifice “Castle of Culture” (“Zamak kulture”), the former summer residence of the General Belimarković, built in the late XIX century. The symbol of Vrnjačka banja and the most common postcard motive is the Thermal bath and large flower roundel in the middle of the park. Spacious parks with the European landscape architecture and a new Japanese garden are also spa’s trademarks.
From its very founding the spa was visited for healing and uplifting, but also for cheerful companionship. Tradition of balls and festivals, has, with some changes in the form, held up to date.
