Pljevlja preserves traces of inhabitation from the second millennium BC. Romans lived there subsequently and, in enjoying the benefits of the location, built own settlements the ruins of which can be visited in Municipije and Komine. Commercial caravans en route to Constantinople brought along religions of different settlements, and that is the reasons why Pljevlja with numerous Christian and Islamic monuments has always been, and remained the crossroads of religions.
