The village representing island, surrounded by water flows - Danube, Danube branches and canals. Forests of the Special Nature Reserve "Gornje Podunavlje" and Danube, formed the way of life of Backi Monostor inhabitants. Peaceful village for nature and culture beauties discovering.
In Backi Monostor surroundings you can see a black stork, white tailed eagle or fascinating deer. Can also ride the barge on the canal or old Danube branch, you can ride the fiacre, bicycle or take a walk. People in Monostor would show you traditional costumes, more than 150 years old, traditional houses, made from the mud, reed and wood. You can try the best fish stew, fried fish, marinated fish, gibanica, walnut liqueur or rakija. Also, can see or try weaving, making wooden boats, wooden clogs, bags from reed and fish nets.
Accomodation facilities for the tourists are a private pansions and houses, 10 of them, generaly from 2 to 6 persons capacity. These facilities are from two to tree stars categoriated.
The pansions and room for rent are: "Rooms Somodjvarac", "Rooms Plavsin", "Pansion Mitic", "House for fent - Marija", "Rooms Devic", same as the lots of bungalows beside the waterflows.
There are guided tours for the guests, including visits to the catolic church, traditional houses, traditional crafts presentations, caracteristic gastronomy, excursions to the forest and Danube.
Nearby cities: Sombor, Apatin, Subotica and Osijek in Croatia, making interesting cultural tourist offer.
Important dates and festivities in the village are June 29 / International Danube day and local religios holliday, with the festival "Regeneration of the Danube", "Bodrog festival" / festival of traditional crafts, food and music, second weekend of August, October 13, "Zavitni dan" / the day for thanking the Holly Mary for saving the village from the war devastation / church and folklore programm.
