In the docile region of northwest Backa, within the area of 1.178km2, with an average height of 90m, lies the town of Sombor with 100.000 inhabitants. Half of those 100.000 inhabitants live in the town and the other half live in the 15 surrounding villages. The eastern sides of Sombor are guarded by Telecka plateau and the Danube bathes 10,5km of its western sides, separating it from Croatia. In the north it flows through Hungaria, towards the European Union, while in the south it opens out to Serbia.
This whole area, relying on the future corridors VII and X, 175km northwest of Belgrade, 200km south of Budapest and 345km southeast of Vienna, is the shortest route between the Middle East and Central Europe.
Often called the greenest town of the wide European region, with its hundred year tradition of hackney-coach service and its other unique markers, Sombor is a town admired by strangers, its inhabitants love it and are proud of it, and those who have never got to know it should come and see for themselves…
