The largest public collection of fine arts in Hungary opened in 1957 and has been moved to Buda Royal Palace/Castle in 1975. Since those times, it has been steadily extended. The permanent exhibitions contain medieval and Renaissance stone carvings, panel paintings and wooden sculptures, late Gothic winged altar pieces, late Renaissance and Baroque art, paintings and sculptures of 19th century, a collection of paintings of Mihály Munkácsy and the Realism period, and 20th century art until 1945. Look also for special contemporary exhibitions. Ticket offices are in wings A and C. Budapest Card holders get free entrance for the permanent and 10 % discount on temporary exhibitions.
