The collection of Western European art from Renaissance to 20th century owes its existence to Dr. Branko Ilić who donated his collection to the city of Novi Sad. There are art works of famous European artists such as Peter Paul Rubens (”Vulcan's Mint”; “Tendida Gets Weapons”), Bordone (Madonna with Child), Magnasco (“Resting Soldiers”) and others. Unfortunately, a (self) portrait of Rembrandt and a portrait of Seneca by Rubens were stolen in 2006. In May 2013, it was announced that the (self) portrait "Bust of an Old Man in a Fur Cap", most probably a work of a scholar of Rembrandt, will be returned to Novi Sad. The collection is part of the Novi Sad City Museum and shows also German and Austrian furniture of 18th century.
