Founded in 1873, this highly interesting museum became the Hungarian museum of the year in 2001 and European museum of the year in 2003. While the official name is Magyar Környezetvédelmi és Vízügyi Múzeum (English: Museum of Hungarian Hydrology and Environmental Protection), the collection shows all aspects of life and work of people on the Danube river. Located in Esztergom city center, in an 18th century building, this house played an important role in 1838 to solve problems after the heavy Danube flooding in the same year. Documents, historic maps and objects from all over Hungary have been collected here. They present all necessary tools connected with the Danube. There is a huge playground space for children, as well.
