When visiting the Buda Castle (Budai Vár), have a look also at the late medieval remains of the former castle at the Southern end of the complex (15th, 16th century). Remains of the first castle, dating back to 13th century AD, are rare to find. Later on the castle was more and more transformed to a palace with great progress under Matthias Corvinus, who wanted a Renaissance style palace. See the Matthias fountain and nearby statue of prince Eugene, who was responsible for the re-conquest of the castle from Ottoman hands (1686). The actual Royal palace is dating back to 1867
