Sfantu Gheorghe located on the oldest Danube`s arm, where Danube flows into the Black Sea. Far away from the world’s tumult, the traveler will find a place surrounded by the waters, where Danube embrances the Black Sea with Sfantu Gheorghe branch. The administrative area of the village is of 60575.87 ha. The village itself is spend on 75.98 ha. The village is inhabited by around 600 people that preserve their tradition and Ukrainian language.
Situated in the eastern extremity of Danube Delta, in the eastern part of Tulcea town, at the distance of 120 km from Tulcea and 35 km from Sulina. The village is bordered at the north by Crisan village and Sulina town, at the east and south by the Black Sea and the west by Murighiol village.
The climate is continental, with warm summers and freezing winters with harsh winds. The access in the community is possible only on water. From Tulcea harbour with ferryboat only for people ( Tulcea – Sfantu Gheorghe 4h), Mahmudia ( Mahmudia – Sfantu Gheorghe 2h 30) or Murighiol watertaxi ( Murighiol – Sfantu Gherghe 1h). Both Mahmudia and Murighiol ports can be reached by car, on the main distance being of 30 km and respectively 38 km from Tulcea .
