Romania is a country located at the border of Central and South-eastern Europe. It is surrounded with Hungary, Serbia, Ukraine, Moldova and Bulgaria, as well as The Black Sea.The country is divided into 41 counties and the municipality of Bucharest, which is also the capital. EU membership and cooperation with all the major global alliances, are the result of democratic development, that started in 1989. by the "Romanian Revolution" and over-throne of autocratic communist regime.

With more than 21 million citizens and developing industry, it has the status of upper-middle income economy.

Surface area of almost 239 thousand square kilometres is distributed between mountains, hills and lowland regions. The Carpathian Mountains are located in the centre of the country, with 14 mountain ranges above 2 thousand meters high. Moldavian and Transylvanian plateaus, as well as Pannonian and Wallachian plains, surround the Carpathians.

Romanian part of the Danube is 1075 km long, which is the longest segment of the river within single country. Its landscapes change dramatically - from the steepest cliffs, to broad and peaceful plains, until it reaches the Black Sea. Just before the end of its journey, the Danube divides into an expansive delta - The Danube Delta, second largest and best preserved delta in Europe.
