Natural jewels in the surroundings of Dunajská Streda
The trail is in the heart of Žitný ostrov, which possesses rich flora and fauna (water lily, deer, osprey) and was used to be called for centuries as the Garden of the Fairies. The trail is partly signed. It is selfguided trail. The most interesting natural spot is the river Klátovské rameno, the most interesting cultural sites are the jewish cemetery in Dunajská Streda, water mill in Dunajský Klátov, historic town center in Dunajská Streda.
The area - as the whole south of Slovakia - is very multicultural, apart from Slovaks is densely inhabited by Hungarians. All year around visitable, the region offers something special in all seasons, but the best time is from April to October. The area is one of the hottest and driest zones of Slovakia. Mean January temperature ranges between 1 and -2°C while mean July temperature is more than 20°C. Average annual rainfall is 550 - 600 mm.
The region is an ideal destination for lovers of nature, Hiker friendly accomodation and restaurants: Hotel Bonbon in Dunajská Streda (www.bonbon.sk), Czajlik Ranch in Dunajský Klátov (www.czajlikranch.sk). The trail is easily walkable, the best for target groups: families / 50+. Dunajská Streda is easily accessible by train, by bus from Bratislava (40 min. travel). Hikers can try horse-riding, archery, cycling, angling and swimming. Prices are friendly, visitors can found campsites and four-stars hotels as well, food is cheap and delicious (fresh vegetables are more common here thanks to the large amount of land given over to agriculture). Hospitable people welcome all guests visiting the heart of Žitný ostrov.
