Natural beauties of the Danube Floodplains Protected Landscape Area
The trail unveils the beauty of a unique landscape - floodplain forests, which in many aspects create an extraordinary habitat hosting different species of fauna and flora. It is the largest area of floodplain forests in Slovakia and consists of well-developed branch system, oxbow lakes, river islands, sand and gravel banks, and is covered mainly by residual alluvial forests, swamps, lowland meadows and agricultural land. System of river branches, oxbows and forests represents the largest inland delta in the Central Europe.
The trail is not signed. It is selfguided trail. The most interesting natural spots are the Danube and the floodplain forests. The best time to visit is from April to October. The trail is an ideal choice for lovers of nature. Along this trail there are some hiker friendly accomodations (primarily cottages and pensions) and restaurants.
The trail is easily walkable, the best for target groups: families / 50+. Vojka nad Dunajom and Gabčíkovo are easily accessible by bus. Hikers can also try cycling and boating. Prices are friendly, food is delicious. For all visitors is recommended to try the fisherman’s soup, what is the national dish of Hungarians living in this region (in Hungarian language it is halászlé).
