The oldest church in Pest at Elizabeth Bridge is partly on the remains of the former Castrum Aquincum, the Roman fort and northernomost stronghold on Danube, on today`s Pest site. In 11th century, St Gerard (St Gellért) was buried here. Later on, it was extended in Gothic style and renovated in neo-Gothic style in 19th century. In Ottoman times, it was also used as a mosque, and there is still a mihrab inside. Inner City Parish Church (Belvarosi Plebaniatemplom) can be found at Marcius 15 Square, 1056 Budapest.
