This museum on the spot of the ancient Roman settlement of second century AD, some 7 km outside (north) of the center (take the suburban train BHEV to arrive ), is dedicated to the Roman heritage in Budapest. The permanent exhibition “Rome in Aquincum” is now shown in the restored electrical transformer house. It presents selected items of the museum collection. One world famous artifact, the so called Aquincum organ, can be admired only now, 75 years after having been excavated. The preserved organ parts are shown, as well as a reconstruction of its mechanism and a copy that really works. Also permanent is the Visual Storage exhibit, presented in the new exhibition hall, built in 2007/2008. In addition, there are several temporary theme exhibitions.
