The exhibition in Kaliopa House (built in 1864) presents the Ruse lifestyle from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, when the town became known in Europe as Little Vienna. Besides showing the typical interiors of Rouse town houses, the drawing room, living room, music hall and bedroom show Viennese furniture, European porcelain, glassware and the first grand piano of that time in Ruse. Legend goes that the name of the house derives from beautiful Kaliopa. Born Maria, wife of Prussian consul Kalish. It is said that she may have been in love with the then governor of the Danubian Vilayet, Midhat Pasha.
