Mátyás Templom dates back to Middle Ages, but its neo-Gothic architecture is from late 19th century only. The reconstruction started in 1874, after the coronation of Queen “Sisi” and King and Emperor Franz Joseph in this church. See the wonderful reliefs chapels, and excavation areas with frescoes in the back part of the church. Admire the chapels and the altar area in the chorus. Be prepared to wait at the ticket office, before entering. On top of the church, a raven is a reminder of Matthias Corvinus and the power of Hungarian kings.
