Independence Monument Park is located on the top of one of the hills of Tulcea. The Monument was built in 1899 and it is dedicated to the victims of the Romanian Independence war, which was part of the Russian – Turkish wars. In the park, you can also see the remains of the uncovered ancient Roman settlement, which was once on the banks of the Danube. The Museum of History and Archaeology is also situated in the park (see Danube.travel, section museums, or Tulcea, museums).
