The Donaubüro Ulm / Neu-Ulm is a non-profit of the cities of Ulm and Neu-Ulm, and acts as project agency for inter-regional cooperation in the Danube countries. In the context of civic activities, community projects, and EU projects in the fields of education, management and ecology supports Donaubüro Ulm / Neu-Ulm encounters and exchanges in the Danube region.
The cities of Ulm and Neu-Ulm, can look back on many years of intensive contacts with the cities along the Danube. In particular, the migration of the last 200 years has led to a lively cultural exchange in the Danube region. Even during the Cold War, the contacts with the cities along the Danube through civic initiatives were maintained. The cities of Ulm and Neu-Ulm, wanted to support the existing bourgeois activities and strengthen relations between the Danube countries and organized in 1989 the first cultural festival "Danube Festival East-West". After the great historic changes in Europe, the Danube activities enshrined in Ulm and Neu-Ulm. Then in 1998 the first International Danube Festival was held, which takes place every two years from then on. Further institutionalization of the Danube activities was the opening of the Danube Swabian Central Museum of Ulm in 2000.
The Donaubüro Ulm / Neu-Ulm is established in 2002 as a joint institution of the city of Ulm and Ulm Chamber of Commerce with the aim to carry out projects in politics, culture, science, education and ecology, and to act as a door opener for business contacts.
The Danube activities Ulm soon made into a recognized center of excellence in Baden-Württembergische for cooperation with South Eastern Europe. Thus the image of Ulm is strengthened as a center of the Upper Danube region - other cities and towns of Donaueschingen to Donauwörth can be guided by this regional leading role. Together with the fact that Ulm has excellent transport approximately in the middle of the European railway line Paris-Budapest, these are future-oriented location factors, which profile as a European city of Ulm. Central importance is also the International Danube Festival, organized since 2004 by the Donaubüro Ulm / Neu-Ulm.
From 1 January 2008 rises the City of New Ulm as a third partner of the Danube Office Ulm / Neu-Ulm. Through the extensive political developments in the Danube region, particularly through the development of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, the importance of the two cities of Ulm and Neu-Ulm, in the European context.
To this polti human development and thus outgoing claims in the enforcement of the Danube Strategy will meet for the Danube Region can, as of 1 January 2011 at the Lord Mayor of Ulm set up a Danube-officer department. The Donaubüro Ulm / Neu-Ulm is focused from now on to support community projects and civic engagement, and other projects in the Danube region, based on practical experiences and encounters. And for the international Danube festival, held since 1998 in Ulm and Neu-Ulm, every two years, with artists from ten Danube countries and hundreds of thousands of visitors, the Danube office is responsible. Due to the changed role of the Donaubüro Ulm / Neu-Ulm separates the IHK Ulm as shareholder 31.12.2010.
