The country's population is around 4.5 million people, while its territory covers an area of 56.6 square kilometres. After the war for independence (1991. to 1995), Croatia has been rapidly developing its industry, infrastructure and tourism, and now has a status of a high-income economy. In July 2013, it will become full member state of the European Union.

The tourism accounts for up to 20 percent of national GDP, and it is focused particularly on the Adriatic coast. Nevertheless, the country also offers a number of other historically important destinations and national parks.

Croatian landscapes diverse: hills on the North, flat plains of Slavonia in the East, mountains and woods in the central part, and the Adriatic Sea with more than thousand hilly islands.

The Croatian part of the Danube is 188 kilometres long, flowing through the flat plains and a national park with a number of specific bird and animal species.
