Hiking along the Danube in Austria
Resinous fragrant woods on steep shores take turns with rich green meadows and the vineyards of the Wachau – an unadulterated living space for humans and animals. Forests, rocky gorges, wooded plateaus, fertile plains, wine regions and untouched river valleys dominate the landscapes of the Danube in Austria.
This natural space can be experienced by hiking along the various hiking trails.
Donausteig:
A hike on the long distance hiking trail Donausteig allows for incredible insights and perspectives into the Upper Austrian Danube Region. Numerous, versatile landscapes, accompany hikers from Passau past Linz to Grein on 450km of hiking trails and offer breath-taking views and insights into a legendary area.
Welterbesteig Wachau:
The hiking trail Welterbesteig Wachau runs from Krems to Melk through the beautiful landscape of the Wachau World Heritage Site. It passes sunny vineyards, picturesque wine villages and cultural attractions.
Weitwanderweg Nibelungengau:
On the Weitwanderweg Nibelungengau a hike leads from the Upper Austrian Donausteig to the Welterbesteig Wachau. It connects these two hiking trails, so one can hike all the way along the Danube from Passau into the Wachau.
