Transport

The Donau-Isar-Express to Munich and Passau leaves Vilshofen railway station every hour. The nearest stations for long-distance journeys are Passau main railway station and Plattling. Vilshofen is part of the Passau regional public transport network. Regional buses are also in operation, particularly those run by RBO.

Vilshofen is served by the A3 autobahn via junction 113 (Garham/Vilshofen). The town is also on the B8 that goes from Passau to Straubing via Plattling. Other major connections are the southbound 2083 to Aidenbach and 2119 to Ortenburg. Both of these roads run to the right of the Vils river through Vilshofen and, in an effort to reduce the volume of traffic from its current level of 20,000 vehicles a day, are due to be linked in the near future to the B8 via a local bypass.

Vilshofen is where the 88km Vilstal Cycle Route comes to an end and joins the Danube Cycle Route.
