Transport
Passau's main train station (Hauptbahnhof) is the border station linking the two rail networks of Germany (Deutsche Bahn) and Austria (Österreichische Bundesbahnen). Main routes from Linz, Regensburg and Munich converge here along with branch lines from Mühldorf and Freyung. Express trains to Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Vienna and Hamburg-Altona pass through here every day and, less often, to Berlin. There are also local trains every hour to Mühldorf, Munich and Linz. A seasonal service runs on summer weekends on the Ilz valley line as well as to Ulm and Vienna. Apart from the main train station, the only other passenger station still in operation is the request stop of Neustift on the Rottalbahn (Red Valley line), which is served by an hourly regional service to Mühldorf (Upper Bavaria) operated by Südostbayernbahn (South East Bavaria Rail).
Passau is connected to Regensburg by the A3 autobahn and to Wels in Upper Austria by the Innkreis autobahn. The B8, B12, B85 and B388 link Passau to the wider long-distance road network.
Several national and international coach companies serve Passau. Coaches operated by BerlinLinienBus and meinfernbus depart daily to Berlin ZOB central bus station, while coaches operated by eurolines serve Passau on their way to and from various destinations in eastern Europe. Within the town itself, Verkehrsbetriebsgesellschaft Passau operates buses on eleven main routes and four minor ones. In addition, the Oberhaus-Pendelbus (shuttlebus) operates a special seasonal service as part of the wider town bus network.
