Immendingen

It's hardly fair, really. Immendingen has plenty of interesting buildings (the Upper and Lower Castles for instance). It lies in the middle of a geologically significant landscape, has any number of welcoming inns, a good museum, and much more besides. And yet most people visit for just one reason: ...

Country: Germany

Transport

Despite serving a relatively small town, Immendingen train station is a significant interchange where three lines meet. This is where the Schwarzwaldbahn (Black Forest line) from Offenburg to Constance meets the Donautalbahn (Danube valley line) from Donaueschingen to Ulm. Immendingen is also the terminus for the Wutachtalbahn (Wutach valley line) to Waldshut via Blumberg. Since 2004, this line has once again been in regular use as far as Blumberg as part of the Ring Railway concept. As well as Immendingen station itself, the stations of Immendingen Mitte and Immendingen Zimmern also serve the area. The Hattingen (Baden) train depot, where the Gäubahn line and the Schwarzwaldbahn meet, is also in the Immendingen area, giving passengers a total of four working lines (the Schwarzwaldbahn, the Donautalbahn, the Wutachtalbahn and the Gäubahn).

The approach road for the A81 Lake Constance autobahn is about three kilometres from Immendingen. Immendingen is also on the B311, which provides direct connections to Ulm and Freiburg.
