First St. Paul Evangelic-Lutheran Church was built in 1827, but had to be renewed around 1900 and became – now in neo gothic style – much bigger. It was the third biggest Lutheran church in Russia. Closed in 1937 and his pastor killed, the building was used after WW II as a TV station and a warehouse. The “Kirche” burned down in 1976. The building at former German Square was given back to Lutheran Church in 1997, and reconstruction works started. In total, 7 Million Euro were spent. The new Protestant Church with stained-glass windows and an organ re-opened 2010. There is as well a Bavarian cultural and religious center.
