This first Ukrainian museum dedicated to the highly important Jewish culture in Odessa opened in 1927. Its collection was one of the largest in Europe, presenting 35 000 items, but disappeared during time of occupation in WW II. Reopened in 2002, it is now a key museum to understand the city. In second half of 19th century, Odessa was the city with third biggest Jewish population worldwide, after New York and Warsaw. Discover the extraordinary universe of Jewish writers (first to mention is Isaak Babel, who favored Odessa, in 1916: as «the City in which it is easy to live, in which clearly to live». Pay tribute to Mendel Mojher-Sforim, H. Bjalik, S. Chernihovsky, historians, and many more and enjoy the actually 1000 items to see.
